Treatment of pigmentation issues with medications typically involves the use of topical creams or ointments prescribed by a dermatologist. The specific medication prescribed will depend on the type and cause of pigmentation, such as:

1. Hydroquinone

This is a common topical medication used to lighten dark spots, including melasma, sunspots, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Hydroquinone is a drug so it won’t be available online and can only be prescribed by a qualified dermatologist. Hydroquinone is very effective if used in proper care and with a dermatologist.

2. Tretinoin (Retin-A)

Tretinoin is a retinoid that helps improve skin texture and can also be used to treat some forms of hyperpigmentation. It’s again a drug and you cannot buy it online.

3. Corticosteroids

These are sometimes prescribed to reduce inflammation and lighten dark spots, especially in cases of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Have to use this medicine safely as it can cause side effects. In India, most people buy these medicine from a pharmacy without a prescription and ends up with permanent deep pigmentation on their face.

4. Vitamin C Serums

Topical vitamin C serums can help brighten the skin and reduce pigmentation, particularly when it’s caused by sun damage. Not all Vit C serums are effective and work. Vit C serum usually requires special manufacturing as it gets inactive once it comes in contact with air. So just do not buy any Vit C serum.

5. Kojic Acid

Kojic acid is used to inhibit the production of melanin and can be effective in treating some types of pigmentation. Kojic acid should be present in certain concentrations to be effective. Durg grade concentrations available on prescription only are very effective.

6. Azelaic Acid

This medication can help treat melasma and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation by reducing melanin production. This drug can irritate in higher concentrations. It’s effective in certain kinds of Pigmentation.

7. Niacinamide

Also known as vitamin B3, niacinamide is found in various skincare products and can help improve skin tone and reduce pigmentation. Most online sold and available Niacinamide is of low strength and not of much use. Surprisingly most sold fairness cream in India also contains Nicinamide only.

8. Tranexamic Acid

Tranexamic acid is sometimes used topically to treat melasma and hyperpigmentation by inhibiting melanin production. It’s a very effective medicine when taken orally and applied topically to a particular type of pigmentation.

It’s important to note that the effectiveness of these medications can vary depending on the individual and the specific type of pigmentation being treated. Additionally, some medications may require a prescription from a dermatologist, while others may be available over-the-counter.

If you’re considering medication for pigmentation issues, it’s essential to consult with a dermatologist or healthcare professional who can assess your skin’s condition, determine the underlying cause of pigmentation, and recommend the most appropriate treatment plan for your specific needs. They can also guide proper skincare routines and sun protection to complement the medication treatment and achieve the best results.

Do not fall prey to online commercials and influencers selling you these medicines and no actual drug can be sold online by social media platforms.
